An upgrade of the EU data protection sector with new competences
Project goals
The DataPRO - Data Protection Officer (DPO) is intended to be a response for SMEs to the new requirements raised by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. The aim of common vocational training curricula for DPOs is to provide staff with the technical skills they need to fill identified skills gaps.
These new curricula should contribute to the improvement of the key competences and the qualification level of DPOs and include the following aspects:
- a training needs analysis,
- a working world based learning scheme,
- innovative ideas that promote cross-border, transnational and regional mobility of learners and staff in this field, and

- Develop an environment that promotes the employability of learners and staff in the field of data protection
- Improving the transparency and harmonisation of sectoral competences and qualifications of DPOs
- Creation of a standardised certification for DPOs - Development of a mechanism to ensure knowledge, skills and competences of data protection staff
Project activities
- 1 new joint curriculum for the vocational training of DPOs designed and implemented
- 1 new, work environment based methodology designed and tested
- First certification of DPOs of the "New Generation" (New Age) according to the GDPR
- 50 DPOs trained according to newly developed curricula
